Its been a while!

Wow it’s been a while! Let’s see…last posted on daddy’s birthday. Since then I’ve gone for a Walk…yes, THE walk. One mile barefoot, right next to my 3 favorite men (well, actually I only got to walk along side of 2 of them) Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson. Went to their concert afterward which featured Sherwood, Steel Train, And Hellogoodbye. If you want a life changing experience, definately take a walk, you can find one in your area by going to Take The Walk and search up your state there! Not a day goes by that I don’t think about how much my shoes really mean to me. Walked through snow barefoot even, and that’s enough to get you thinking.

I tried for NaNoWriMo, but only got 28,000 words written. For those of you who don’t know, NaNoWriMo stands for national November writing month, in which, thousands of people try to write a novel, or 50,000 words in the month of November. That was exciting.

World war 3 nearly broke out at my house because of a laundry mishap and me walking from the bathroom to my bedroom in a towel. The outcome of that? I got kicked out of the house. I have to start searching for a place by the first of the year. I don’t mind though, I’ve over stayed my welcome and was just basically waiting for the kick out to happen lol. I’m not stupid, I’ll take advantage of $400 rent here without utilities anyday, but now it’s time to husstle.

My brother and his family came over for thanksgiving bumping our guest count up to 16 people. That was really nice. My dad and brother haven’t spent a thanksgiving together in 30 years! So it was a real joy to have the family together. Not to mention, finding out that our family line leads back to the first Mayflower voyage, thanksgiving this year had a whole different meaning to us.

Besides that, everything else is pretty much the same. Job’s going as stressfully as can be and I’m loving it, my life is beautiful, and I am wishing your hollidays will be grand! Time to get working on my Christmas gifts (handmaking all of them, have 20 people to make for and only have 2 things done..eek!)

TOMS Shoes

This is from an e-mal I got sent from Toms. My boys (aka: Hanson) have done WONDERS with this charity and I figured I’d help spread the word to the world.

Toms is a wonderful charity to get involved in as well; for each pair of shoes purchased, one pair is given to a child in need for free who needs it. There is a 100% preventable disease out there known as Podoconiosis (Podo) for short that effects hundreds of millions of children each minute of every day. It is fully preventable by wearing shoes. Toms, and Hanson, are striving to alert the world about this fantastical One for One movement.

Also with this is a site dedicated to five othe charities besides Toms, that can help everything from building schools to providing fresh water to a person for a year for only one dollar. Aids is also covered in this program.

Please help me spread the word. I don’t ask to be noted about this, but please give credit to Toms Shoes to The Walk when mentioning this to anyone.

The websites, for more information are here:

TOMS Shoes

And

Take The Walk

And now, for the email I was sent:

Since TOMS got its start three years ago, the guys of HANSON have been avid supporters of the One for One movement. Whether it was simply wearing the shoes and telling the TOMS story, organizing 24,902 one-mile barefoot walks (covering enough distance to circle the globe) which raised money for Friends of TOMS, or funding other programs to help fight poverty and disease in Africa, Isaac, Taylor and Zac have been authentic inspirers of change. The guys are familiar faces at TOMS too. Some full-time employees actually joined them on the road in 2007 to sell the HANSON limited-edition Great Divide TOMS and share the One for One movement with the incredible HANSON fans.

HANSON encourages their fans to get involved by participating in their one-mile barefoot walks, held at each stop on their tour. The walks raise awareness for the lack of simple amenities, like shoes, available in Africa and around the world. Hanson and their fans have already completed 24,902 miles together, which means they have traveled the distance around the world and are several thousand miles into their second lap. The next lap of their Walk Around The World will continue before each concert at venues and college campuses on their Use Your Sole tour, where tour mates HelloGoodbye, Steel Train & Sherwood will be taking part in the one-mile treks as well. The Use Your Sole tour kicks off in the trio’s hometown of Tulsa, OK on September 30th and finishes off in San Diego, CA on November 8th. The tour will also feature Steel Train and Sherwood.

It’s All About The Music

Before you start bashing on my band, let me tell you that it’s a simple plutonic relationship I carry on what with Hanson and their music.

I used to be one of those screaming Fansons, hell, even my first concert was Hanson at Red Rocks Ampetheater, July 18th 1998 (a fan like me can never forget the first hanson concert date). I would say that yes, the boys should have been scared for their lives back then. But not now.

However, if their music could somehow take on a humanly form, then it would be time to worry again.

For all you stubborn asses out there, let’s put out of mind the fact that MMMBop made you fear turning on the radio or television. Let’s take away the fact that for boys, hanson was their first taste of questioning their sexuality. I’m here to discuss the boys as a band, their music and their valant emphasis on what they do, and are doing, for the world as well as the music industry.

Back in 1997, Hanson was a top-selling, Platinum-taking, Grammy nominated band. Then out of the blue, they vanished leaving most to wonder what happened, right? Okay, okay, I know half of you don’t care. You’re probably sitting there, snickering to yourself saying, ‘jen, get to the point, my dear.’. And I am. Just hold on a moment. There’s some ‘splaining to do first.

Island/Def Jam were their record label back in those days. The label is still around today, piping out hit artists like The Rocket Summer and Lady Sovereign. I try to limit myself on buying any record with the Island/Def Jam label only because of the shit they put Hanson through. IDJ turned down over 80 songs that Hanson wrote because it wasn’t conforming to the ideal music that one hears today on the radio. Instead of wanting to focus on providing the world, and their fans with honest-to-goodness rock and roll, IDJ wanted the band to bring about messages of another kind.

That’s when Hanson began their struggle with detaching their name and music from the label to try to make it on their own, with their newfound independent label (3CG).

They released their first independent album, Underneath, and it reached the number 1 spot on Bilboards Independent list. They even went on tour and though the venue’s were smaller, providing a more comforting, laid-back feel, the band sold out their concerts still and prevailed.

At their Underneath Acoustic tour, they touched a bit on how the music business works. How radio, these days, only play music selected for us, and not by us. They struck down on the importance of going against the grain and supporting independent bands. Are You Listening is a site you can visit for further information.

It wasn’t long before Hanson met with with Blake Mycoskie (creator of Toms Shoes) and tried their hand at charity work that would end up being the basis for Hanson’s next project; The Walk.

The Walk helps support the battle against AIDS/HIV in Africa. It’s an east concept, really. Buy a pair of shoes, and a pair will be given to a child in née in Africa. Upon thinking about how Hanson can help get their fans involved, they made a song for purchase on iTunes called Great Divide where all proceeds would go for the AIDS/HIV prevention fund.

It was also formed, that before Hanson’s concerts, they would conduct a 1-3 mile walk and urge people to walk it barefoot, so they can see what most people take for granted. They set up Take The Walk providing the world a chance to help make a change in one of the most poverty-stricken places around.

These boys not only defied the world by making it successfully on their own, they found a way to make time, thinking about others as well.

Yes, Hanson and their fans still get crap from day to day by people who still have ‘a pickle in their booty’, but those are the people who fail to see the hardships these boys have encountered and overcome.

I’m not forcing you to like them. I’m not telling you too accept them into your own musical intrests. I’m only asking you to give them a chance. If you still have a problem with it, I’ll ask you to show me a band who is more dedicated to their fans, and still find time to make a personal shoe drop every year voluntarilly. I’ll ask you to find me a band who goes against the grain, and stands up against the music industry by giving others a chance to express theirselves. Show me the band who makes their own music and doesn’t reference drugs, killing, sex…etc. While still being able to produce good ‘ol rock and roll.

Might I add. If you think your girlfriend is a bitch, go to a Hanson concert. I assure you, their concerts beat all others on the bitch scale by infinity.

They’re coming back, guys. I promise =^^=

Oh! And before I’m done ranting on, lemme tell you about this supergroup coming out. It includes people from: Hanson, Smashing Pumpkins, Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne. They’re called Tinted Windows.
